Alicia Keys won’t let hurricane Sandy stop her from giving back to deserving children. After cancelling the November 1 date, due to the disastrous storm, the “Girl on Fire” singer has announced December 6th for her Black Ball REDux gala, set to be held at Harlem’s Apollo Theater.
“In Africa and India where Keep a Child Alive works, HIV is a disaster that’s tearing families apart every day. And while it would be easier to turn away right now, with all that has happened in my hometown, it would be disastrous for the children who count on us for survival,” said Keys in the announcement. “So for them, we’re going to turn it up – and turn it out at the Black Ball REDux!”
Hosted by actress and TV personality Whoopi Goldberg, the event will feature performances from Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson, blues singer Bonnie Raitt, and Brittany Howard. In addition, this year’s gala will honor media queen Oprah Winfrey and singer/activist Angelique Kidjo for their philanthropic contributions in Africa and worldwide.
The Black Ball REDux is an annual event via Key’s Keep a Child Alive charity organization and is a fundraising event that brings entertainment and philanthropy together to raise funds for HIV/AIDS infected children in Africa and India.
