Following successful onscreen efforts including “Not Easily Broken,” “Woman Thou Art Loosed,” and “Jumping The Broom,” T.D. Jakes has signed on to executive produce “Winnie.”
The much-anticipated film, starring Jennifer Hudson, focuses on Winnie Mandela’s relationship with Nelson Mandela amidst Apartheid and other struggles.
While the film was shot last year, Jakes will aid in preparing the film for the U.S. market.
Winnie also stars Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela.
After shooting riveting scenes for the film last year, including a jail scene, Jennifer Hudson detailed just how much of a challenge the project was.
“As a woman, I am angry for her, hurting for her. And as a mom? God, being in solitary confinement, away from my son just for five days when shooting those scenes — it was too much for me,” said Hudson. “I was drained and stripped down. I was changed.”
At this point, it is unclear when the film will open in theaters.
