“I’m Not A Businessman, I’m A Business, Man,” Jay-Z.
That culture changing punchline continues to ring true as the rap mogul continues to expand his Roc Nation empire.
The latest addition to the company is a new TV production department. The new division will be headed by former The Weinstein Company official Patrick Reardon, who will serve as Executive Vice President of Scripted and Unscripted Television, focusing on developing and producing top content, according to Variety.com.
“Roc Nation is such an influential and dynamic company,” Reardon said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them as they expand their brand into television.”
The company already has a presence on the small screen as JAY-Z executive produced two social justice projects – 2017’s documentary series Time: The Kalief Browder Story, and the upcoming Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, which recently premiered at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Roc Nation is also working on an unscripted series for Amazon Studios.
Jay-Z founded Roc Nation in 2008 as a music and management firm, with superstar clients like Mariah Carey, Rihanna, and DJ Khaled. It has since become a full-service entertainment company, with its subsidiary, Roc Nation Sports, established to service professional athletes.
