Montreal natives, Chromeo releases a video for their third single “Must’ve Been,” featuring multi-platinum, GRAMMY-nominated artist DRAM and guitarist Jesse Johnson (Prince, The Time). The Funk duo, comprised of Dave 1 and P-Thugg are seen tracing their decades-spanning friendship in the clip, directed by Dugan O’Neal.
P-Thugg wakes Dave 1 from a deep sleep, initiating each adventure to follow, from Dave 1 hiding from a crazed girlfriend to a flashback of their teenage years smoking in the basement with friends, with an appearance by DRAM. As young children, the duo ends up running from a rec center with a set of keys to an officer’s vehicle and driving away. The explanation for all the madness is questionable. As Chromeo describes it, they must have been out of their mind and high.
“Must’ve Been” is Chromeo’s latest track from their much-anticipated album titled Head Over Heels, which is set to drop on June 15 on Big Beat/Atlantic Records. It features guest vocals from The-Dream, Stefflon Don, French Montana, and Amber Mark as well as contributions from Raphael Saadiq, Rodney Jerkins, Pino Palladino, and Onyx Collective.
“Must’ve Been” by Chromeo featuring DRAM is a funky and upbeat track that brings together elements of electro-funk and modern pop. The song opens with a lively beat and catchy guitar riffs, setting an energetic and danceable tone. The production is sleek and polished, with a blend of funky basslines, rhythmic synths, and infectious grooves that instantly draw listeners in.
Chromeo’s vocals are smooth and playful, capturing the essence of their signature funky style. Their delivery is lighthearted and charming, with a touch of humor that complements the song’s upbeat vibe. The lyrics tell a story of a night that went awry, suggesting that the protagonist might have made some questionable decisions, leading them to ask, “What must’ve been in that drink?” This humorous take on a classic party scenario adds a fun twist to the track’s narrative.
DRAM’s feature brings a soulful edge to the song, his warm vocals and relaxed delivery providing a perfect contrast to Chromeo’s funky vibe. His smooth voice adds depth to the track, elevating the song’s overall feel with his charismatic presence.
The chorus is catchy and memorable, with a refrain that plays on the humorous aspect of the song’s theme. The production maintains a high-energy tempo, with a mix of electronic elements and live instrumentation that create a vibrant and engaging sound.
Overall, “Must’ve Been” by Chromeo featuring DRAM is a funky and fun track that explores the playful side of a wild night out. Its combination of catchy melodies, dynamic production, and humorous lyrics creates a feel-good listening experience. The song’s infectious groove and lighthearted vibe make it a perfect addition to any party playlist or when you need a burst of upbeat energy.
