The backlash continues for Chrisette Michele following her performance at President Donald Trump’s inaugural ball on Friday night! Out of the many people who labeled her “cooning for a check,” many others came to her defense including her fiancé and longtime manager, Doug “Biggs” Ellison.
Taking to social media, Biggs claims Chrisette’s appearance wasn’t about the paycheck while voicing his disappointment for his people. He also launched an attack on director Spike Lee, who canceled plans to feature Chrisette’s music (‘Black Girl Magic’) in his upcoming Netflix series, ‘She’s Gotta Have It.’
He wrote online: “Open letter to @offcialspikelee “F**k You!””
R&B artist Lil Mo, who also publicly supported Chrisette, voiced her agreement with a comment on Biggs’ post.
Side note: Y’all know the internet is going hard after those comments!
As previously reported, Chrisette allegedly collected $250K for performing at the Liberty Ball where she sang alongside gospel artist Travis Greene.
Following the performance, she took to social media to voice her truth and experience.
“I had an amazing time lifting up the name of Jesus last night with my friend @travisgreenetv #LoveOnly #LightOnly #HopeOnly | Thank you to @aliceandolivia for the collaborative, CFDA and Basquiat piece I wore to the ball,” she wrote. “The proceeds support the advancement of the creative arts…a place that is being stripped, in order to reduce “government spending”. #Nopoliticalgenius.”
