Having performed as a backing vocalist for major artists such as Kelis and The Heavy, UK singer Ezzy Anya is stepping out on her own with her debut EP Dream, which delivers a fusion of 90s R&B and the urban soul of today, with Ezzy citing fellow contemporary Sevyn Streeter and icon Aaliyah, among others, as inspiration behind the sound. "I really wanted to cover issues that we all face when in love – the fear of being hurt, getting over heartbreak – I feel that anyone can relate to this EP," the singer explains.
The title track and subsequent lead single "Dream" embodies the commonly felt sentiment of not wanting to face the reality of a situation too soon, and is reflected in the lullaby-like nature of the ballad’s instrumentation. "One Kiss" is an energetic contemporary number that ventures into the realm of rock, while "Tell Him" pays homage to the lush, harmonic writing style of Michael Jackson.
