With the lowest ratings and reviews in series history, "American Idol" will be undergoing a major revamp after the anticipated season finale this week.
According to trusted sources, the biggest change will occur on the actual judging panel. In addition to Randy Jackson's confirmed departure, sources say Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj will not be asked back.
While all of that is somewhat shocking, there's more. Producers behind the competition series are looking for more chemistry and less "star power" next season. That said, there are no plans to pay out huge salaries to "divas," like Mariah Carey, in hopes that their star power will translate into higher viewership and rating figures. Instead, producers are looking to create more of a focus on contestants and a panel that has chemistry.
As for the format of the show, it is likely that themed nights, drawing back to classic eras and songs, will be a thing of the past. Instead, contestants could be performing much more current songs through the season.
