If you were thinking about forgetting about JoJo, you might want to pump your breaks because this “Too Little, Too Late” singer has got some new stuff and it’s hot.
The bass guitar that “Back2theBeginning” opens up with sends your mind a “Oh, this is going to be good” message. Jojo cuts the crap and gets to the real, admitting it took “twenty-two years to trust [herself]; too many people told [her] to be somebody else.” She reveals the ugly side of the music industry.
“Thinking Out Loud” is sugary sweet in the way that it relies solely on Jojo’s voice and a keyboard playing in the background.
In “Andre” Jojo sings about the diamond in the rough she’s found in her man. She describes him as “as fly as he wants to be, cool as a mother.” After listening to the track he definitely seems like someone worth meeting. Must be if he’s got Jojo singing about him. We’re definitely reminded of just how talented Jojo is with this song.
“We Get By” is set on a track that makes you want to scat. The vocals are pulled tightly over a nice instrumental and we learn you’ve got to learn to keep pushing and just learn to get by because “tomorrow’s goodbye,” meaning you kind of just have to roll with the punches because the end of the day is just that…the end. You get to start new every time you wake up.
“This mixtape is meant to be experienced when you have 27-28 minutes to go on a little journey with me and listen to some stories,” said JoJo. “There are interludes, outerludes, random shit, my dad playing harmonica, and a conversation between my whole family at Thanksgiving.”
