On Sept 5, the renowned vocalist unleashed jazz stylings from her bag of tricks during a light hearted, impromptu performance at Belmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel Restaurant in New York City. Carey entertained the crowd with effortless, melisma-filled adlibs.
“During an impromptu visit to the Carlyle, singing Jazz standards I’ve loved since childhood,” she tweeted.
Not since “The Wind” from her 1992 album “Emotions” have we heard her tackle this sound. A jazz album from Mariah wouldn’t be such a bad idea after hearing this.
