The Essence Music Festival has been upgraded with an extra day of music.
Adding a fourth day of shows, up from three, the festival will hold the first ever “New & Next” concert at the Superdome this July.
Slated to take place July 5, the concert will feature performances from Diggy Simmons, the OMG Girlz, and New Orleans’ based marching band The Roots of Music.
In addition to the New & Next concert, Essence will also hold pre-concert block parties with host Doug E. Fresh. Mc Lyte, DJ Spinderella and more will take part in those parties throughout the weekend.
“We are always thinking of new and accessible ways to celebrate our audience and our community on a deeper level at the ESSENCE Music Festival,” states Michelle Ebanks, ESSENCE President. “In addition to our ESSENCE Empowerment Experience seminars – which has always been free and open to the public – we are excited to be offering for the first time ever, the New and Next stage concerts as well as a daily block party as yet another way to give back to our audience. The ESSENCE Music Festival not only celebrates great musical talent but the triumphs of youth, Black women and our festival attendees.”
As previously reported, this year’s line up includes Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin, Trey Songz, Estelle, Marsha Ambrosius, Keyshia Cole, Fantasia and more.
The Essence Music Festival is July 5 – 8 in New Orleans.
