Yesterday (March 26th), social media phenom turned reality star turned rapper Cardi B revealed the release date, title and album art to her highly anticipated debut album, Invasion of Privacy. The project drops next week on April 6th.
In the past, Cardi alluded to the album dropping “soon” but never unveiled a date. She admitted the pressure to deliver a strong debut was overwhelming and pushed her initial October album release date back multiple times. But with the success of her multi-platinum hit “Bodak Yellow” and follow up single “Bartier Cardi,” the new femcee doesn’t seem to be nervous anymore.
Aside from appearances by 21 Savage and her fiance Offset, Cardi is said to have also tapped songstress Kehlani for the new project. Kehlani spoke on the collaboration at the 2017 Billboard Women In Music conference, “We have a jam,” Kehlani said. “I can say nothing else except she’s incredible, she deserves everything coming to her, she works hard and she’s stayed humble.”
Being the social media savvy user that she is, Cardi also released snippets of two songs that may or may not be featured on the album as well.
With the success of her debut single, “Bodak Yello,” Cardi is setting up for tremendous success with the forthcoming album. According to Chart Data, Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy will be eligible for Gold in the US upon release due to “Bodak Yellow” selling 5m units certified by the RIAA. To break it down: 10 track units = 1 album sale, the album has 500k+ units. These units will not be included in official first-week numbers.
