Two days ago (June 21), Twitter split in two groups (#TeamNicki vs. #TeamTaylor) all over comments Nicki Minaj made regarding her nomination snub at the 2015 VMA Awards, and Taylor Swift’s reply. It all became very controversial; conversations arose regarding race and gender in music.
In case you missed it, some of the tweets from Nicki Minaj included, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” and, “I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.”
Taking offense, Taylor replied to Minaj’s general tweets, writing “@nickiminaj I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…”
Taylor got ridiculed by many who thought her reply was uncalled for and misguided. Now the blond starlet has publicly apologized to Minaj, writing on Twitter: “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ.”
And all’s well that ends well, because Nicki accepted her apology. “That means so much Taylor, thank you…I’ve always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on.”
Twitter non-beef, over!
