HS87 member Preston Harris puts his spin on love songs in his debut EP Love Crazy which arrives today (Feb. 10).
When we posted the titled track “Love Crazy” a few weeks ago, it was clear Harris was on to something with his mature delivery. "I want to recreate the same feeling that Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Marvin Gaye brought to R&B music," Harris tells Billboard.
The set is released on Hit-Boy’s HS87 imprint, the beatmaker who also produced the project. Known for his gritty hit-hop offerings such as Jay Z and Kanye West’s “N*ggas in Paris” and Lil Wayne and Eminem’s “Drop the World,” Hit-Boy smoothes it out for Harris’ R&B debut, but you can hear the subtle hip-hop flare on tracks such as “Good Morning” and “Hummingbird.” "I want to hear love songs again on mixtapes and the radio," Harris says. "Love isn't corny. It can still be fresh and dope,” he said.
