John Michael’s debut 2013 project Sophisticated Lady perked some ears, and since, he’s released a mixtape Young and Restless. And what do you know? The hard worker is back with yet another one called R&Bass.
Headed by his version of Jazmin Sullivan’s “Forever Don’t Last,” the 10-track set features some other covers, including Trey Songz’s “Touchin’ Lovin’” and “Sam Smith’s “I Know I’m Not The Only One.” One of the original tracks, “Makin Love,” is home to some certified smoothness. The same goes for "Fill Ya Glass," and there’s even some Sade vibes on “No Quit.”
About the project, John says, “I chose the title R&BASS because I wanted to highlight that I am an R&B singer and love making music where you actually hear an artist singing. Each song is geared for the deep listener. I write with a lot of allegory so you have to look beyond the surface sometimes.”
