Today, Zendaya confirmed that she will be playing Aaliyah.

Welp, the VH1 Aaliyah biopic we speculated over for so long is allegedly happening. According to sources in connection with our friends at Necole Bitchie, the role to play the late R&B singer has been chosen…. Drumroll please…..
And the actress is……Zendaya!
No one saw that coming! Although not officially confirmed by reps, or even Zendaya’s twitter account, for that matter (at the time of this post), the coming-of-age Disney star is said, by NB’s sources, that she will play the singer who was affectionately called “baby girl.” This highly probable news comes after rumors that 106&Park host and singer Keshia Chante was in the running for the part, along model Bria Murphy and actress Tristin Mays.
If true, this should be interesting; she has acting and dance experience, and has mentioned Aaliyah to have been a huge influence. The role should boost her fan base to adults and show her growth.
*Side factoid: Ironically (or nah?), Zendaya dressed up as the late singer for Halloween in 2013. Hhmmm…was that a hint for the public, or destiny?
Anyways, now all we do is wait for an official announcement.
