Trials & Tribulations
August Alsina is only 21-years-old, but he has gone through enough trials and tribulations for a seasoned veteran. These experiences speak to his maturity and ability to transfer them into his music. Growing up with both a father and step-father battling crack addiction, it seems to have helped him see the world for what it really was and still is. It also helped him to rely on himself and his abilities. Through it all, August kept his dream despite dealing with relocation after Hurricane Katrina and the death of his father and brother.
At the age 14, August was inspired by Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. He did not have family members that were into music … only a dream and inspiration. He then started to upload videos to Youtube.com in 2007 and later started to make mixtapes. This drive that August possesses is a reason for his success today.
