It’s that time of year again and Forbes has released their “Five List,” this one calculating the five richest artists in Hip Hop.
In researching the net worth of these moguls, Forbes looks at past earnings, value current holdings, leaf through financial documents and talking to analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and even some of the moguls themselves.
This year’s list sees the top five returning from 2013, but with one change; someone got leapfrogged.
Check out the full list below to see who earned what and who passed whom.
No stranger to the top spot, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs leads the pack once again, and he’s doing it in a big way. The Bad Boy founder added another $120 million to his net worth over the last year, bringing his value to $700 million. His earnings can be attributed to his new Revolt TV network, his liquor holdings, clothing, music and more.
Following Diddy is Dr. Dre, who surpassed Jay Z to take the runner-up position. Dre is worth $550 million thanks to his majority stake in Beats By Dre, which is currently valued at $2 billion.
Jay Z slips to No. 3, but he net worth continues to grow aggressively. His $520 million fortune is credited to the $204 million sale of Rocawear, his $150 million deal with Live Nation, and his Roc Nation enterprise (Music and sports).
Sitting pretty at No. 4 is Bryan “Birdman” Williams, who continues to rake in millions from his Cash Money record labels, which include artists like Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. In addition, Birdman’s $160 million network also pulls revenue from his YMCMB clothing line and GT Vodka deals.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson comes in at no. 5 with a net worth of $140 million. Most of his stake is from his $100 million sale of Vitamin Water in 2007, but he also profits from music, movies, his SMS Audio holding and SK Energy.
