The big screen thriller "The Call" opened with major numbers over the weekend.

Captured by indie director Brad Anderson, "The Call" raked in $17.1 million opening weekend, placing it at no.2 on the final tally, just behind "Oz The Great and Powerful."

With Halle Berry and Morris Chesnut in leading roles, the movie also featured actor David Otunga, who is engaged to R&B singer and award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson.

"Ever since I was young I had big dreams. I always wanted to get into Hollywood and really, into acting. Action movies was what I was always about," Otunga, who portrayed law enforcement officer, said of acting in a recent interview.

"The Call" had been promoted aggressively with much of the cast appearing on national programming such as "The Steve Harvey Show," "The Wendy Williams Show," "BET 106 & Park" and more.

This was also Otunga's first major film role.

The weekend is over and the box office results are in – ‘The Call’ has opened strong! Starring Halle Berry and David Otunga, this psychological thriller was one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. It’s not surprising that audiences were eager to see what these two powerhouse actors could do on the big screen together.

This suspenseful movie follows a veteran 911 operator who takes a life-altering call from a teenager trying to escape an inevitable fate. With twists and turns at every corner, it will keep you guessing until the very end. Not only did fans flock to theaters for its thrilling storyline but also its all-star cast – with both Berry and Otunga bringing their A-game when it comes to acting chops.

It looks like ‘The Call’ has made quite an impression on viewers as it topped the box office charts opening weekend. Keep reading to find out how much money it took in so far and why critics are raving about this must-see film!

Overview Of Movie

The Call, an action-thriller starring Halle Berry and David Otunga, opened strong at the box office this past weekend. The movie follows a veteran 911 operator (Berry) who takes a call from a terrified teenage girl (Abigail Breslin) who has been kidnapped by a serial killer. As time runs out for the teen, the operator must use all her skills to help save her life.

Otunga plays Michael Foster, the detective on the case of the missing girl. He teams up with Jordan Turner (Berry), determined to find the kidnapper before it’s too late. As they race against time and battle their own inner demons, they soon discover that nothing is as it seems in this suspenseful thriller.

The film received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. It earned an impressive $17 million its opening weekend making it one of Sony Pictures’ most successful releases of 2019 so far; proving that movies featuring Black leads can be just as profitable as those without them.

Reception And Performance

The Call has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Critics praised the film for its gripping suspense, strong performances from Berry and Otunga, and tight direction by Brad Anderson. Audiences have responded with similar enthusiasm; many citing that the movie kept them on the edge of their seats throughout.

At the box office, The Call exceeded expectations. Its $17 million opening weekend made it one of Sony Pictures’ most successful releases in 2019 so far. This is particularly impressive given that movies featuring Black leads are often overlooked or dismissed as unprofitable ventures. It’s a promising sign for Hollywood that such films can be just as successful at drawing audiences than those without lead actors of color.

The success of The Call also shows how much progress still needs to be made when it comes to diversifying films released both in theaters and streaming services. With more stories like this being told, hopefully cinema will continue to become an inclusive place where everyone feels represented and respected.

Conclusion

I. Summary:
The movie ‘The Call’ starring Halle Berry and David Otunga has opened strongly at the box office, receiving positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film tells a gripping story of two unlikely allies working together to fight crime in Los Angeles. It has become one of the most anticipated releases this summer season.

II. Reception & Performance:
The movie was well-received by both critics and general audiences who praised its thrilling plot as well as strong performances from Berry and Otunga. Additionally, ‘The Call’ also did exceptionally well financially, earning $15 million over two days which made it one of the highest-grossing films for this summer period so far.

III. Conclusion:
Overall, ‘The Call’ is definitely worth watching if you’re looking for a good thriller that will keep you engaged till the very end! With great acting and a captivating storyline, it’s no surprise that it was able to do so well at the box office despite having only two major stars in lead roles.
