Petition Demands National Anthem Be Changed to R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition (Remix)’?

Surely, this MUST be all in good humor.

I mean, yes, the nation is MUCH different than what it was in 1814 when Francis Scott Key wrote The Star Spangled Banner, but to the point of honoring the nation with odes to “sippin on coke and rum,” and “the feakin’ weekend?

On the White House administration’s website, a petition has been filed to make R. Kelly’s ten-year-old party anthem “Ignition (Remix)” our nation's new National Anthem. So far, the petition has 4,937 of the 100,000 signatures needed by April 2nd, at which that time the White House is required to respond. Usually, The Executive Branch replies to outrageous requests, while not taking them seriously.

Here's the full text of the "Ignition (Remix)" petition:

”WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO: change the national anthem to R. Kelly's 2003 hit "Ignition (Remix)."

We, the undersigned, would like the Obama administration to recognize the need for a new national anthem, one that even a decade after its creation, is still hot and fresh out the kitchen. America has changed since Francis Scott Key penned our current anthem in 1814. Since then, we have realized that after the show, it's the afterparty, and that after the party, it's the hotel lobby, and–perhaps most importantly–that 'round about four, you've got to clear the lobby, at which point it's strongly recommended that you take it to the room and freak somebody. President Obama: we ask you to recognize the evolution of this beautiful country and give us an anthem that better suits the glorious nation we have become.”

This isn’t the first time crazy petitions have been put on the President’s desk; a petition to make unlocking cell phones legal was responded to by an official, and a request for the government to commission a Death Star was turned down because of “fiscal impracticality.”

Only time will tell if the White House will respond. It’ll be interesting to see how they address this one!

It’s a concept that would have been unheard of just a few years ago, but today it has become the subject of an online petition. The demand? To change the national anthem of the United States to R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition (Remix)’. Although it might seem like an outlandish idea at first glance, there are plenty of reasons why this is not only possible, but necessary.

The petition was started by two students from California who feel strongly about making sure their voices are heard on issues like racism and inequality in our society. They believe that changing the traditional national anthem to something more modern and upbeat will be a great way to make sure everyone feels included in America’s identity as a nation.

It’s clear that these two young activists are determined to get their message across no matter what obstacles they face. Their campaign has already gained traction with thousands signing their petition and voicing their support for the cause. Will they succeed or will people remain content with singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’? Read on to find out!

Background Of The Movement

The movement to replace the national anthem with R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” has been gaining traction in recent months, as more and more people are voicing their support for this proposal. The idea is that the song would represent a new era of unity and progress within the United States, one free from outdated values and beliefs. Supporters argue that it could be an opportunity to reposition the country forward by replacing what they consider a dated symbol of patriotism with something fresh and modern.

Proponents of this petition feel strongly that such a change would help bring about positive changes across different aspects of American life. They believe that having ‘Ignition (Remix)’ represent America on a global stage would convey its commitment towards embracing diverse cultures, music styles, and perspectives – all while still paying homage to its history. Moreover, supporters think it could provide an uplifting message of hope during difficult times, reinvigorating citizens’ spirits with optimism and joy.

It remains to be seen whether or not this proposed change will come into fruition; however, the passion behind the cause speaks loudly enough for itself: many individuals have already expressed why they believe switching out ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ for R. Kelly’s classic hit is both necessary and overdue.

Pros And Cons Of The Proposal

As with any proposed change, there are both benefits and drawbacks to replacing the national anthem with R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition (Remix)’. On one hand, it could be argued that this shift would reflect a new era of acceptance and progress within the United States; an opportunity for citizens to come together over something fresh and modern that celebrates diversity. On the other hand, detractors feel that such a move could potentially alienate those who take pride in traditional American values – like patriotism and respect for the flag – by replacing them with something outside of their comfort zone.

A further point to consider is whether or not the song itself is suitable for a ceremonial setting. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the proposal, some may argue that its more upbeat nature might diminish from solemn moments during ceremonies when paying tribute to veterans or honoring fallen soldiers. Furthermore, certain lyrics in ‘Ignition (Remix)’ have been accused of being inappropriate for public gatherings due to their sexual content.

Ultimately, while many believe switching out ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ for R. Kelly’s classic hit could bring about positive changes across different aspects of American life, it remains to be seen if doing so will outweigh potential drawbacks associated with making such a drastic switch at the national level.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the movement to change the national anthem to R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition (Remix)’ has sparked a heated debate amongst Americans. While some are in favor of this proposal due to its upbeat and inspiring tone, others oppose it for reasons such as cultural insensitivity or political correctness. Ultimately, any decision regarding our nation’s anthem should be made with careful consideration and respect for all citizens.

At the end of the day, we must consider what is best for everyone involved and ensure that no one group of people feels excluded from patriotism or pride in their country. We should also keep in mind that symbolism matters; after all, choosing an anthem is more than just selecting a song – it is about creating a shared identity and sense of unity among our diverse population. It is up to us as citizens of this great nation to make sure that whatever choice we make will reflect our values and beliefs while still honoring every individual’s right to express themselves freely.
