Quvenzhané Wallis has just landed another huge role after garnering an Academy Award nomination for starring in Beasts of the Southern Wild. The 9-year-old has been tapped by Overbrook Entertainment (Will Smith), Marcy Media (Jay-Z), director Will Gluck and Sony Pictures Entertainment to play the lead role of Annie.
“With the recent Academy Award® nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star," states Hannah Minghella, president of Production of Columbia Pictures. "She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”
Annie is set to arrive in theaters during the winter holiday season in 2014.
