Trey Songz picked the right movie. Thanks to “Texas Chainsaw 3D,” the R&B heartthrob had a smooth transition into the film world with an impressive $21.7 million in box office receipts over the weekend.
Not only is Songz happy with the success of the movie, a market poll conducted by Marketcast has indicated that moviegoers were happy to see him in theaters.
According to Marketcast, one in three moviegoers under the age of 25 said Songz was the reason they showed up to see the movie.
“The fan reaction could not have been better. They loved the clip. They were scared for themselves, they were scared for me, it worked out perfectly,” Trey told the Los Angeles Times when asked about the box office hit. “I don’t even have words for how much that meant to me.”
John Lussenhop, the filmmaker that decided to take a chance on Trey Songz after seeing him perform at the BET Awards, says his hard work paid off.
“Just because someone is a big deal in the movie business doesn’t always translate to the screen. But he wanted to go to work and be successful, and he was,” says Lussenhop.
“Texas Chainsaw 3D” opened in theaters last Friday, Jan.4.
