Singersroom recently set up shop in Brooklyn, NY for the “In & Out” music video, the debut release from Epic Records recording artist and X Factor contestant Marcus Canty. Featuring Maybach Music rapper Wale, we got into the mix during the block party and spoke with Marcus about how he’s planning to make an impact as a new artist as well as artists he grew up listening to. In addition, we also caught some eye candies and folks having an awesome time.
Some excerpts from the video:
On R&B music Today…The energy from the 90s is what’s kinda missing. People don’t do that anymore. Everybody wanna have a stripper in their video…they gotta be half naked. That’s cool but…
90s Artists He admired…I was a Bobby Brown Man, but I was an Usher fan though…Usher was my man, but I loved Bobby though.
On Making an Impact…I don’t necessarily wanna do what they did. The impact I’m trying to make as a new artist is to make sure that people understand that music isn’t dead. People don’t have to sing to do R&B anymore. I think it’s when the rappers decided they wanted to start singing on us. It kind of takes away from the beauty of having an amazing voice, like the Whitney Houstons and the Mariah Careys. I wanna be that guy that they can say he sounds really good and he’s entertaining at the same time.
On The Status of R&B…Everybody is talking about R&B is dead man. It’s not dead, the problem is the right people ain’t coming out with the right stuff. I’m gonna come out with the right stuff.
