NEW RELEASES: Joss Stone, Leela James, Lenny Williams, Nona Hendryx, Karyn White

Lenny Williams, Nonna Hendryx, Karyn White, Leela James & Joss Stone are several veteran artists known for soulful deliveries on their albums. This week the collective released new projects through independent record labels.

Joss Stone – The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 | Stone’d/S-Curve (Buy)
Recorded in Nashville, “The Soul Sessions Volume 2” features eleven songs including cuts of ’60s and ’70s tracks like “Pillow Talk,” “The Love We Had,” and “While You Were Out Looking For Sugar.” The album is one Stone claims was fun to record with “brilliant musicians” including Ernie Isley and Betty Wright.

Leela James – In the Spirit of Etta James | Shanachie Entertainment (Buy)
With Leela James’ talent, no matter what she does, you are going to stop and pay attention to her vocal gifts. Knowing this, James bundled her creative styles with the spirit of Etta James to pay homage and reintroduce the late legend to a younger generation.

The namesake songbirds share a delivery of raw emotions, felt over any musical backdrop from Jazz to Rock, which is why Leela is one of the best selections to carry the torch with her forthcoming album ‘Loving You More….In the Spirit of Etta James.’ In what started as one track of adoration, the respect grew to an album, not of covers, but the spirit of Etta James with the perspective and interpretation of Leela. While the instrumentation differs on the rendition records, what is constant is the delivery, which reminds you of each moment passed.

Karyn White – Carpe Diem | KW Entertainment (Buy)
Superwoman” singer Karyn White put her duty as a mother first when she stepped away from music seventeen years ago. Now that her daughter has entered college, White transitioned back to her music career as an empty nester. She continues to create records that uplift women, from her classic song “Superwoman” to her new single “Sista, Sista.”

The album will showcase “heartfelt retro acoustic soulful flare” cuts and will feature a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s 1986 chart topping hit, “True Colors.”

Nona Hendryx – Mutatis Mutandis | Righteous Babe Records (Buy)
One-third of Labelle, Nona Hendryx released her last solo album ‘You Have To Cry Sometime’ in 1992. Her new LP touch a broad spectrum of topics from religion to politics but she does not leave out matters of the heart.

Lenny Williams – Still in the Game | Empire Distribution (Buy)
Retirement is not an option for Lenny Williams as the veteran singer “Still” posses the fuel for a skilled vocalist. His formula: The “Cause I Love You” hitmaker stays in the lane that has brought him success; “love.”

“Love is what has gotten me through all of these years. I look for love and I surround myself with it,” Lenny says.
