This week we have two albums by former bad boys Eric Benet and Bobby Brown. The veteran singers have soften their public persona over the course of the years, while dropping new records that do not attempt to jump on current music trends.
Eric Benet – The One (Buy It)
The significance of the album title ‘The One’ has been empowering for Eric Benet. “I called the album “The One” because I’ve been dreaming, and working towards this goal, pen ultimately, to have my own record label, and then to release my own stuff on that label. And this is the one; the one I’ve been dreaming about my whole career and working towards,” he told Singersroom.
After more than fifteen years in the music industry, five solo albums, and four Grammy nominations, Eric Benet is a rarity as he starts his own record label. The soulful crooner’s success can be undeniably be attributed to his humble disposition, drive, and smooth vocal prowess.
Bobby Brown – Masterpiece (Buy It)
The R&B bad boy himself is back with a new album entitled ‘The Masterpiece.’ His first original material in 15 years, the first single “Don’t Let Me Die” has a newer sound, unlike the new-jack swing sound we’re used to when popping in a Bobby Brown CD.
“I simply wanted to create a body of work that will take listeners on a musical journey; the style of music that will allow people to get in touch with their highs and lows and their joys and pain of living through song,” Bobby Brown says about the solo project. “At the same time, I am hoping to bridge the gap between good old R&B and R&B of today.”
