9 Summer Mixtape Favorites

What have you been listening to this summer? Representing summer, mixtapes have always played a key role in adding to our summer bliss. As summer quickly nears its end, we can’t help but to run back our favorites. Let’s recap the hottest mix-tapes of summer 2011. Hopefully you have already listened and still are.

Chris Brown ‘Boy in Detention’
Continuing his healthy run, Brown never fails us. Similar to a boy in detention, he is bad, carefree and raw. Diving head first into rap, you would’ve thought he had years under his belt. In 21 tracks, he holds no bars as he delivers a style never duplicated. Combining his rapping and singing, you may just want to sit in detention with him. With close to 6,000 listeners and 415 downloads thus far, we salute this bad boy.

Rocki Evans ‘Simply Twisted’
Simply amazing! Hands down he is running for the best R&B of the summer. The eleven tracks are a titillating tease. So much so that a burning, yearning for the album is present. Evans simply twists a few classic hits making the sound that much more. His voice takes you to a place of comfort. The male spin on love and relationships is always intriguing and Evans’ twists it to the exact groove. “Better Dreams,” “The Nest” and “The Past” are must listens. Still building, his 3,634 listens and 253 downloads are well earned.

Sonyae Elise ‘Lady Rebel Vol. 2’
As if her voice wasn’t enough to lure us in, her lyrics are equally hot! This pretty little rebel is wreaking havoc on our ears as she laces us with reality. Catchy beats, loose tongues and a fearless attitude is embedded on this mix-tape. Rebellious indeed!

Teedra Moses ‘Luxurious Undergrind’
Still under appreciated, Moses is coming with a vengeance that we all knew she possessed. Her sweet, soothing, hypnotic vocals engage us and put us under over and over again. Bellowing out love songs every girl can relate to, she makes us smile, reminisce and contemplate. With Maybach Music on her side, we hope to see her receive the credit she is owed. Go ahead and add another listen to her already 4,457 and 354 downloads.

Pretty Ricky ‘Sex Music Vol. 1 Streets n the Sheets’
There isn’t another word to describe this group besides nasty. Pleasingly, they tune our ears with sexy, straight forward lyrics that may pierce our sometimes virgin ears. Crooning us, we can’t help but to get in the mood. Freaky, nasty and vulgar, all in a good way.

Nikkiya ‘Speakher’
Holding a sound we haven’t really heard, Nikkiya is giving us a dose of what we need, something different. Quickly adapting to her voice, Nikkiya similar to a speaker, commands our attention. Writing all her tracks, she is speaking to us. Hailing from the southern streets of Atlanta, she is rising.
