John Legend & the Roots “Wake Up!” (Columbia)â¦John Legend & the Roots captured the energy and inspiration from the 2008 presidential election to create “Wake Up.” The album is largely a set of cover songs focused on the message music of the 1960s and 1970s by songwriters like Marvin Gaye and others, but there is one original composition called âShineâ that was written by Legend himself. CL Smooth, Malik Yusef, Common, and Melanie Fiona also make an appearance on the project. Shontelle “No Gravity” (Motown)â¦Shontelleâs sophomore album “No Gravity” continues a sound mixture of Pop, R&B, Experimental and Rock influences. Her lead single “Impossible” acquired huge fan support making it her most successful single to date by notching at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100. âItâs a tough time for a new artist,â Shontelle said recently in an interview. Adding, âI feel like it takes time as an artist to really find yourself and develop your sound and figure out what people want. Sometimes itâs more challenging than you think.â Iyaz “Replay” (Reprise)â¦Iyaz, a Singersroom 30 Under 30 nominee, was discovered on Myspace by recording artist Sean Kingston in 2008. He built momentum with his chart topping first single “Replay,” which was followed by his second single “Solo.” About the albumâs focus, Iyaz says, “Itâs mainly about the relationship stuff Iâve been through, stuff Iâm going through. The whole album is about me, relationship-wise. There is a lot of stuff, but most of it is all about the ladies.” By these titles along with others at the Singersroom Store.
