The Weeknd has kept a tight control on his mass appeal by restricting his performances, appearances and internet presence, all while building a loyal legion of true believers. Now, two years after releasing his ‘House of Ballons’ project, the Canadian crooner has signed a record deal with Universal Republic via his label XO.
Co-signed by singer/rapper Drake, the Toronto native purposefully remained unknown when he released his first project, which built more interest from fans, who were curious to learn more about the upcoming singer. As he dropped a couple more projects, offers for feature collaborations opened. He has since added his vocals to records with Drake, Wiz Khalifa, and French Montana.
The Weeknd plans on releasing his debut album, ‘Trilogy,’ via Universal Republic this November. Prior to the album dropping, he will return to the road, performing in Hollywood, Miami, Atlanta, New York, and Toronto.
