Would you pay Ashanti thousands to visit your school? A New Jersey school district shelled out $20,000 for the “Foolish” singer recently.
According to Press of Atlantic City, Ashanti spent a day at an Atlantic City High School leading assemblies, meeting privately with a group of middle school students and completed an interview with the school’s radio station.
Calling Ashanti’s appearance “a once in a lifetime opportunity,” a school district official said the funds were taken from a school budget designated for instructional services.
While there is sure to be criticism over the amount spent, sources say Ashanti was paid for her services just like a vendor would be compensated for providing a product or service.
As reported earlier this year, Ashanti is working on her fifth studio album. Led by the single “The Woman You Love,” the album is titled “Braveheart.”
