Goapele refuses to be limited by the “neo-soul” tag. After reworking songs from her self-release "Closer", she went on to develop a partnership with Columbia/SME in conjunction with her independent label, Skyblaze Recordings, to release "Even Closer" in 2002, and "Change It All" in 2005, both of which received widespread acclaim and presented Goapele as both a talented artist as well as a business woman. Her latest album "Break of Dawn" (2011), has brought Goapele back to the forefront of music after a six year hiatus. “Both the album title and the song represents a new day and yet another opportunity to live the life we want to live,” Goapele explains. The album is perhaps Goapele's most diverse and exciting project to date, revealing more intimate lyrics about the birth of her daughter, passing of her father, and sophisticated love songs.
Recently released is the video of "Break of Dawn" standout, "Undertow." There is undoubtedly much more in store for the talented singer-songwriter, as she prepares her upcoming song "Is It Love," co-written and produced with Rickey Minor, that will be featured in the upcoming film, "Baggage Claim" featuring Paula Patton and Jill Scott (out in September).
