It's official. SWV is heading to television and it will be via WE TV!
SWV made things official during an appearance in New Orleans at the Essence Festival.
"It's official everyone!! We are coming to WEtv this fall!!! We promise you this great TV for everyone!! Thank you for you love & support!!" SWV confirmed via Twitter after taking the stage at the festival.
According to WE, at least six episodes have been ordered, following the group as they tour, write new music, repair friendships and navigate the music industry.
"These dynamic women experienced enormous success together, then it all fell apart. United again, the stakes are higher than ever, and so – at times – is the drama and tension. Look out for SWV on WE Tv!
It’s official – the ’90s R&B girl group SWV is back and ready to take over! After 25 years of performing together, this iconic trio made an appearance at this year’s Essence Festival, making it their ‘Sisters With Voices’ reunion. It looks like there are no signs of stopping for these ladies as they announced a new WEtv series documenting their journey.
The group first came onto the music scene in 1992 with hits such as “Right Here” and “I’m So Into You,” quickly becoming one of the most popular female groups around. Despite taking some time off from each other over the years while members pursued solo projects, all three original bandmates reunited last year and have been working on new material ever since.
Now that we know SWV is here to stay, fans can look forward to seeing more of them than ever before with their upcoming WEtv show. Tune into what promises to be an emotional documentary featuring never-before-seen footage about how far they’ve come since day one.
Background Of Swv
SWV, or Sisters With Voices, is an American R&B trio from New York City that achieved success in the 1990s. The group consists of Cheryl “Coko” Clemons, Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons who have been singing together since their high school days. SWV has released five studio albums throughout their career and have had many hit singles including “Weak,” “Right Here/Human Nature” and “You’re the One.”
The group recently made its grand return to music with a new album titled I Missed Us which was released on April 17th 2012. This album marked the first time all three members had recorded together since 1997’s Release Some Tension. As part of their comeback tour, SWV performed at this year’s Essence Music Festival in New Orleans where they were officially welcomed back as ‘Sisters With Voices.’
In honor of their triumphant return, WE tv announced that it will be airing a one hour special about SWV called SWV Reunited which premieres August 14th 2013. The show follows the ladies through their reunion journey including recording sessions for I Missed Us and behind-the scenes moments related to preparing for live shows like Essence Music Festival. Fans can expect to get an intimate look into how these three women came back together after 15 years apart.
Highlights Of Swv’s Performance At The Essence Festival
At the 2013 Essence Music Festival, SWV made a powerful return to the stage. As they hit the mainstage in front of a sold-out crowd, it was clear that this wasn’t just any ordinary performance; it was an electrifying celebration of music and sisterhood.
The trio opened their set with their 1993 classic ‘Right Here/Human Nature’, followed by their other fan favorites like ‘Weak’ and ‘You’re The One’. Throughout their show, Coko, Taj, and Lelee shared anecdotes about how much being reunited meant to them as well as stories from when they first started out in high school together. This only further strengthened the bond between them and the audience which responded eagerly throughout each song.
The group ended their set with a rousing rendition of their 1997 single “Can We” – a fitting anthem for not only the night but all fans who have been waiting for years to hear these three ladies singing together again. It was truly an unforgettable moment that will go down in history as one of SWV’s greatest performances yet.
Conclusion
I couldn’t be more proud of SWV for making their official return to the stage at the Essence Festival. It was an incredible show that brought back fond memories and had the crowd singing along with every word. They made sure to include all their classics, as well as some new songs from their upcoming album.
It’s clear that this is only the beginning of a long journey for them, and I’m looking forward to hearing more music in the future. With Wetv now covering their reunion, we can expect even bigger things from SWV soon. We’re so glad they’ve decided to come back together after all these years; it’s been too long!
At the end of the day, no matter how much time has passed or what changes have happened, one thing remains true – Sisters With Voices will always bring us closer together with a joyful sound.
