It’s difficult to find someone of the feminine persuasion to ever see the heights of the hip-hop music production game (if at all), even more rare if she’s in high school! Ontario, Canada native Ebony “Wondagurl” Oshunrinde is an aspiring producer whose track was placed on one of the biggest hip-hop releases this year: Jay-Z’s new 12th album Magna Carta Holy Grail on the bass-heavy song “Crown.”

The beatmaker has been making music since she was nine years old, inspired by mega producer Timabaland and studied videos on Youtube to learn the ropes. She then caught the ear of Drake’s sideman Boi 1da who helped her win the 2012 Battle of the Beatmakers competition. After supplying her talents on Travis Scott’s “Owl Pharaoh” mixtape, Scott contacted her to inform her that one of her tracks was chosen by Jay-Z for his upcoming opus. It was her work on Travis Scott’s “Uptown” that caught Jay’s attention.

"I made a beat and sent it to Travi$ Scott and he said he was gonna do some stuff with it," Oshunrinde recalls of the track which would later become “Crown.” "A few days later he texted me and said he was about to change my life but he wouldn't tell me what he was talking about. Then he called me and told me I was officially on Jay-Z's album." The teen beatmaker took Sizzla's "Solid As A Rock" and added the trap sound popular now. "A lot of people are making trap and it's,like a little bit of that with real hip-hop mixed into one beat," she explained.

Take a look at Ebony’s story of discovery below; we’ll most likely be hearing more from Ms. Oshunrinde!

At only 16 years old, Wondagurl is making waves in the music industry. From producing beats for some of hip hop’s biggest stars to landing a placement on Jay-Z’s new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, she has earned her place as one of the most exciting and promising young producers today. But who is this remarkable teen? How did she manage such an impressive feat at such a young age? Read on to learn more about what makes this teenage producer so special!

Born Ebony Oshunrinde in Toronto, Canada, Wondagurl started making rap beats when she was just nine years old. By 12 years old, she had already begun working with local artists and gaining recognition for her talents. In 2012, Travi$ Scott – then signed to Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D Music – heard one of Wondagurl’s tracks online and invited her down to Houston to work on his debut mixtape Owl Pharaoh. This collaboration proved pivotal; it opened many doors for the aspiring producer and allowed her to network with other influential figures in the music industry.

In 2013, Wondergirl made history by becoming the youngest producer ever to have a beat placed on an official release: Jay-Z’s twelfth studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail featured a track titled “Crown” that was entirely produced by Wondergirl herself! Since then, she has gone on to produce multiple additional tracks for major labels like Universal Music Group and Epic Records – no small feat for someone so young!

A few months later, she sent a track titled “Crown” to Timbaland who then passed it along to Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s camp; thus bringing about the opportunity for a professional placement on Magna Carta Holy Grail.
