Kendrick Lamar may have Compton’s most notable star, Dr. Dre, co-signing and producing his beats, and one of the area’s hardest rapper, Game, giving him props, but that still isn’t enough for him. In a recent interview, the good kid m.A.A.d. city rapper, who has worked with A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz and Drake, says he wants to work with another Compton legend, DJ Quik.
“He is a legend, the original Compton cat that really branded the foundation along with N.W.A,” Lamar told DJ Buck of Hot 93.7 about the 90’s rapper. “That’s all we was playing in the house when I was coming up.”
The rap lyricist also discussed bringing back that nostalgic sound that some of his predecessors made so great.
“I want to bring back to the essence of that type of feeling… Nas, Biggie, Tupac, really just take it back,” he said. “These kids [today], they don’t know about that sound. I took it upon myself to reintroduce that feeling and vibe to the kids today.”
