Breaking The Color Code
In a time when the people still fight for equality, despite advances and triumphs such as Barack Obama’s re-election, the people have become more inclusive rather than exclusive. The British are actually responsible for helping to revitalize the soul and other countries are following suit because they grew up loving R&B. Black does not define the Soul in R&B and it is becoming more evident everyday. Artists such as Jesse J, Daley, the late Amy Winehouse and Adele are showing us that there is a deep appreciation for soul, not only amongst our Caucasian brethrens, but especially on that island called England that has been producing some of the most soulfulestastic (I just made that word up and I’m proud of it) artists. Hall & Oats, Michael McDonald and Bobby Caldwell laid soul dipped vocals on ballads in the 80s. It is a beautiful thing. R&B music has ceased to be “race music”⦠its not black; its colors span the all of the many vibrant colors of the world.
