Hits To Biz: Business Savvy 30 Under 30 Men

Ne-Yo started out as a songwriter, writing hits for everyone from Beyonce to Rihanna then blossomed into a sought after singer and dancer with three hot albums under his belt. But Ne-Yo is also handling his business. He founded Compound Entertainment which is an artist development and production company and is currently the face behind Macy’s new line Alfani Red. Beyond endorsements and music, Ne-Yo will soon debut two film/television related projects including a cartoon like series titled ‘What The Bear’.

While Chris Brown has had a tough 2009, we can’t deny his talent. Adding the title songwriter and actor to his resume, Brown has successfully penned songs for other artists and appeared in films such as “This Christmas” while also securing his own imprint (label) in 2008.

After parting ways Disturbing Tha Peace, Bobby V. has shown that hard work can lead to great success. Bobby Valentino released his album “The Rebirth” under his label “Blu Kolla Dreams” in 2009, led by the hit single “Beep”.

Lloyd, proves that hard work and determination can lead to even greater success. Lloyd started out in a group call N-Toon which was signed under Dreamworks Records but because of a lack of promotion of the group, they did not reap the benefits of having a record deal and the group broke up. Lloyd did not let that stop him from pursing his dream of “making it” so he set out on his own, signed with Geffen Records followed by a deal with Murder Inc. and became one of the hottest R&B talents in the music industry. Today, Lloyd is pushing his own music (“Pusha”) through Noontime Unlimited, post The Inc., and working on his fourth studio album.

Omarion first caught our eyes as a member of the group B2K. After the group disbanded, Omarion decided to break out with a solo career in addition to having starring roles in such movies as “You Got Served” and “Feel The Noise”. Suffering a blow after parting ways with Young Money (Lil Wayne), Omarion proved that he could come back out on top this fall. In September of 2009, Omarion revealed plans to release his third studio album through his own imprint Starworld Entertainment.

Drake was born in Ontario where he began his acting career by starring as a character in the sitcom Degrassi: The Next Generation. After the show, Drake began to focus on his music career and released his first mixtape called “Room For Improvement” in 2006. Since then, Drake has caught the eye of both hip hop and R&B stars as he was deemed the “Savior of Hip Hop”. Opting to take a deal with Universal, after a bidding war, Drake is clearly poised for a long triple-threat laden career.
