Ok, the music industry calls the genre of R&B to be the bastard of pop music or rather music period. I guess because they think it doesn’t relate to all people… I’m not really sure. Is it too black?? Is it a race thing? Hmmm… My thoughts are that we all could stand to progress a bit. Again, that old cliche saying “think out the box” (which I hate). The more R&B expands the more we can turn on all kinds of people to this genre we love so much.
We as R&B lovers are at fault as well because we won’t let it progress. If it’s not the same standard R&B song then we are all up in arms and that doesn’t help the cause. Maybe all R&B doesn’t relate to all people but, good music usually does. Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” & “Let’s Get It On,” Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour,” Usher’s “Yeah,” Chris Brown’s “Deuces,” Frank Ocean’s “Novacane“; all are R&B records.
So to remedy this situation, I am going to put you on some artists & bands that I believe have elements of R&B and are different, but are still DOPE! For those people that are calling R&B the bastard child of pop and music, I say these artists resemble your children quite a bit… I digress. Enjoy!
