She has taught us the “Art of Love & War,” how to appreciate our Brotha’s, and to embrace the richness of “Mahogany Soul” in just nine years. Most of all Angie Stone has helped to set aside western standards of beauty by embracing natural and curvaceous style with a twist.
“I’m the kind of person that when I put my mind to something, it’s a wrap,” says Angie Stone.
Over the last few years Stone has put her mind on a lot of things including a recently inked fashion deal with Ashley Stewart.
“I’ve struck a deal with Ashley Stewart, so I should have jeans and shirts in there soon.” Stone’s deal follows in the footsteps of several industry movers and shakers like Monique and Jill Scott who also have clothing and accessory lines through Stewart.
When she’s away from the studio and her upcoming line, Angie Stone stays focused on eating healthy, maintaining a consistent fitness regime and promoting F.A.C.E. Diabetes.
“I hope [I] can inspire African-Americans, like me, who are living with diabetes,” Stone, who is an ambassador for Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered, said at an event earlier this year.
As for staying healthy and maintaining that ‘Mahogany Soul,’ Angie Stone tells Essence ‘..though I’m not a gym girl anymore, I do a lot of walking and make sure that I do something involving an activity to maintain my health and my size-14 figure. My family is a member of the Y, so we go and play basketball twice a week. I also bowl a lot, and that’s exercise enough for me.’
On the inspiration tip, Angie admits to putting down the sodas, candy, and junk food… something that a lot of us have trouble with.
If Angie can do it and look as fabulous as she does so can we…right ?
