Philadelphia singer-songwriter-rapper Selina Carerra can boast about working with The Fugees’ Pras Michel as a member of their short-lived group Axixs, as well as being Lauryn Hill’s background singer. But now she’s stepping out on her own again (once briefly signed to Columbia and Monarch Music Group), working on new material to be released shortly. In the meantime, Carrera presents The Wonder Years, a compilation her first releases, recordings, and freestyles.
The Wonder Years blends hip-hop, jazz, and R&B with Selina’s prowess as a poet to express what emotions, world observations, and life experiences. The overall vibe is a positive one, as she motivates on “Get Up,” expresses confident individuality on “Only Be,” and brings back that confidence once again in “Energy,” gearing it towards the opposite sex.
