Trey Songz is happy to know R. Kelly has been listening to his music and may be willing to collaborate with him in the future.
Following up on Kelly's interview with MTV recently, Songz says Kelly has been a major influence and will forever be the "King" of R&B in his eyes.
"I love R. Kelly. He recently said that he would love to work with me, said that he's a fan of mine and that's very special to me," Trey told MTV News. "I can't really explain how much that means to me. He's been an influencer and an idol for me for a long time. We had our differences and right now we're in a great place. No matter how well I do, [R. Kelly] is the king forever in my eyes."
While he is impressed with R. Kelly, Songz might be struggling with Kelly's advice about staying out of R&B beefs.
"I’mma talk to Ne-Yo when I see him. It ain’t even that. The thing is that Ne-Yo knows me,” Songz told 106 KMEL radio this week. "Ain’t no need to have that conversation for the world to hear, you know. And I feel like that’s a sucker move."
With that said, Songz is not surprised by people taking shots at his artistry. According to Trey, it's to be expected.
"It’s all good though. I’m a real ni**a. They gon’ take shots," he told KMEL.
In related news, Bryan Michael Cox has come to Trey's aid when it comes to criticism over his music. According to Cox, Trey Songz is simply trying to be a multi-dimensional artist.
