Steve Rifkind to Leave CEO Post at SRC

Steve Rifkind, the founder of Street Records Corporation (SRC), is responsible for signing Akon, Melanie Fiona, Shontelle, Asher Roth and David Banner to his label. Yesterday (July 31) he confirmed that he will end his role as CEO of SRC.

“All great things come to an end. Yes it’s true I’m leaving SRC Universal as of Sept 1. Want to thank all the artist 4 a great run,” Rifkind wrote on Twitter.

Started in 2002, SRC a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, hit major success with Akon’s three platinum albums. Prior to SRC, Rifkind launched Loud Records in 1991, which jump started the careers of Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Three 6 Mafia and Big Punisher.

Rifkind adds that he’s not walking away from music insisting, “I will stay in Music just give me a few weeks to spend time with my family.”
