Tyrese Ready to Play Teddy Pendergrass, Looking For Right Director

Tyrese Gibson is planning to bring a legend back to life but he’s looking for the right director to help him. The “Sweet Lady” R&B crooner is planning to play Teddy Pendergrass in a big screen biopic and he wants Lee Daniels (Precious) to direct.

“My dream director would be Lee Daniels, ’cause he’s from Philadelphia and he’s raw, knows how to tell the truth about characters and layers,” Gibson told AOL Black Voices. “He knows how to get people to go there.”

Before Pendergrass passed away in January 2010 due to respiratory failure, he gave Tyrese his blessings for the film.

“I was there during the last days of him being on this earth,” Gibson said. “He told me himself, ‘I don’t want nobody else in this world to do this movie but you.’ At first it was an opportunity, now it’s a responsibility.”

Do you think Tyrese is a great choice to play Teddy Pendergrass? We think so!
