American Idol Paige Miles, Siobhan Step Up In Week Two

Thanks to a last minute switch the top 10 girls on American Idol had an extra day to prepare. After Wednesday’s episode, some appeared to benefit while others “fell flat”. Paige Miles, taking the stage after praised performances from Crystal Bowersox, Lilly Scott, and Katelyn Epperly, followed Todrick Hall in taking on Kelly Clarkson’s discography. While Ellen considered the performance “fantastic,” the remainder of the judges found it “forgettable”. “I’m afraid that two weeks in a row you have failed to choose the right song for you,” Simon said, agreeing with Randy’s assessment that she fell flat. “It’s like the songs are overtaking you.” While Miles chose Kelly Clarkson this week, soulful song selections were made by a good number of contestants. Everything from Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me” to Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” received play. It was Siobhan Magnus, who delivered the night’s final performance however, that stole the show. Performing Aretha Franklin’s hard to tackle hit “Think,” Magnus surprised judges with a major note towards the end. Randy Jackson weighed in, telling Magnus she slayed the song, while Kara could not understand how she hit the final note. Dubbing Magnus “strange,” Simon delivered the night’s last words calling parts of the song “terrible,” but the final note “incredible”. All contestants will learn their fate when the results show airs tonight, Thursday, on Fox.
