Fragrance Guide: Get The Scent That You Absolutely Love

Perfume is the most personal way to make a statement about yourself. Updating your fragrance wardrobe can be a huge pick-me-up too. This a detailed guide to help you choose the one that’s right for you. First figure out if you’re looking for a scent to wear to work or on date night. Obviously, you should choose lighter, fresher scents for causal daytime events and warmer, sexier fragrances for evenings out. Then head to a store that has a large selection of fragrances like Sephora or a department store with a large fragrance counter – the more choices the better.

Next, narrow your choices down by spritzing on the paper blotters that the store provides. Don’t spray on your skin until you’ve narrowed it down to an even smaller selection of fragrances you really like. If you don’t like it on the blotter, you won’t like it on your skin so those can be eliminated.

Now that you’ve narrowed the field, try on up to four scents. Make sure that you space the test spots out as much as you can on your forearm and wrists and be careful not to overwhelm your nose. You should wait before making any decisions because it takes about five minutes for any fragrance to work with your chemistry. It’s even better to ask for samples so you can try each one for a day or two to see which one you really gravitate to.

The most important thing is to make sure that the scent is you. Don’t buy something just because it’s a certain brand or you heard your favorite celebrity wears the same one. It has to be the one that you absolutely love.

Below are five of the best new scents out there. Have fun trying them out. Also, fragrance makes a great gift but make sure to include a gift receipt. Just because you love it doesn’t mean they will.

Michael Kors Very Hollywood ($65) – very sexy and glamorous with notes of gardenia, white moss and mandarin
