Danity Kane might have spilt but the love is constant between Dawn & Que. The couple shared with us their Valentine’s cheesiest stories, best gifts and dream dates.

Singersroom: What was the cheesiest, corniest Valentine’s Day present you’ve ever gotten?

Dawn: The weirdest and I think it told where my relationship was gonna go, was when I was in high school my first love broke into my locker–he had the master key–and like, put all kind of candy and chocolates in it.

When I got in, I was like, “How do you have the combination to my locker?” And he was like, “I broke in and I gave you all this candy.” At the time I’m thinking, “This is so sweet!” It kind of told me where our relationship was headed. Already from the beginning, he was a mini criminal. After that our relationship for five years was a very interesting one.

Que: [laughs] I don’t think I even got anything for Valentine’s Day. I’m usually the one that’s giving the girls gifts. Like, my past girlfriends I usually buy them gifts. They don’t usually buy me anything.

Singersroom: What’s the best Valentine’s Day present you’ve ever gotten?

Dawn: That’s a good one! Que and I haven’t had the opportunity to spend Valentine’s Day together… We’ve been knowing each other awhile, but we work a lot, and we’ve never really had one… I have to say my father is amazing and he… I’m sorry, someone just slipped a card underneath my door saying “I have a crush on you.” I’m not kidding you. It says, “From an admirer with a crush, good day. Thank you. It’s been real.”

Que: [laughs] A kiss! [laughs]

Singersroom: Oh my God! This is crazy. Right on the interview!

Dawn: I just got up to use the restroom and I have a card underneath my door. So random…

Singersroom: [laughing]

Dawn: Que would so kill the guy right now! He would be so angry!

Singersroom: [laughing]

Dawn: Umm, you know what? My dad has always – with my mother and I – given us a teddy bear and some candy and treated us so sweet for Valentine’s day. I think it’s really hard for the guy that’s going to have to deal with me for the rest of my life, because [dad’s] kind of pampered us as women. He’s such a great male example of what a man should be to a woman. The best Valentine’s Day gift I’ve gotten is from my father. I’m a huge fan of plushed animals and everywhere he just comes up with the best gifts. He’s amazing! My dad’s the best!

Singersroom: In your opinion, what would be the ideal Valentine’s Day that Que could plan for you?

Dawn: He would already know this. I would like to go to Paris. When I have a bad day, I think Que and Paris. Just experience it, not anything crazy, not like over the top cliché. Just some wine and some cheese and Paris. That’s my idea of a perfect Valentine’s Day.

Que: The ideal Valentine’s date would be a romantic dinner, candles lit, a bubble bath, a nice dinner of seafood–the lobster and the big shrimp. You gotta have the chocolate strawberries with the rose petals.

Singersroom: What stage in a relationship do you think chocolates and a card, roses and dinner and a concert fit into?

Dawn: You should never pigeon-hole a guy. It doesn’t matter how much money you’ve got, I like creativity. I like a guy who pays attention.

Que: I think it depends on the person. I think Valentine’s Day is a day to share your love. My intention is to make the person that I love happy.

Singersroom: What’s your perfect Valentine’s Day song or soundtrack?

Dawn: This is the song that I feel like… Love sounds like this or love sounds like this song. I was introduced to it very young. My father’s a musician and he teaches me the old school stuff. I really feel like love sounds like this, looks like this, feels like this and it’s Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

Que: I would definitely put on “A Song For You” by Donnie Hathaway. That’s one of my favorite songs. It reminds me of my mother, my girl, my family. It’s a song for you. I’m singing that song for you.

Singersroom: That’s a Classic.

Dawn: It feels like falling. Love should feel like that. —— By: Seattle Slim
