Buzz around NBC’s live version of “The Wiz” is brewing, and it just got bigger.
In August, it was announced that 18-year old newcomer Shanice Williams will play Dorothy, Elijah Kelley was cast as the Scarecrow, Ne-Yo will play the Tin Man, and David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion.
People Magazine has the first photos of the cast in costume as the iconic characters. Tony-nominated costume designer Paul Tazewell designed the modernized costumes. “We’re creating a fantasy land that also is inspired by some of the imagery you’d see today,” he said. “It’s the edgiest of high-fashion from now but in the world of the Emerald City.”
This issue of People Magazine will arrive on newsstands on Friday (Oct. 16). “The Wiz Live!” will air on Dec. 3 on NBC at 8 pm EST.
