This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album, which will be celebrated by a re-release of the album on Sept. 18 complete with bonus tracks, a DVD, and other bonus material. Legendary director and MJ’s personal friend Spike Lee is working on a documentary film about the “Bad” album which is due out later this year, the date yet to be determined.

Lee said he learned a lot about the late star while combing through footage for the documentary, calling it a “treasure chest of findings.” In speaking with the Huffington Post, he said, ” “We have footage in this documentary that no one’s ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff,” reveals. “We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson. … He wrote 60 demos for the `Bad’ record. Only 11 made it. So we got to hear a lot of that stuff, too, so it was just a great experience.”

Not only will the documentary dwell on Michael’s artistry, it will also highlight the late King of Pop’s personal life and personality. “He had a great sense of humor, and he was funny – so you’ll see a lot of that stuff,” he said.

The film will feature interviews from today’s artists who are influenced by him, to those who actually worked side by side with the legend; some names include Kanye West, Mariah Carey, and Sheryl Crow, who was a background singer on the “Bad” tour.

Every year, Lee holds a birthday tribute to Jackson in Brooklyn; this year it’s going to be held on Aug. 25. “This year we’re going to focus on the `Bad’ album, we’re going to focus on the 25th anniversary, but at the same time we’re going to play his full catalog, including the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons,” he said. “It’s going to be even bigger and better this year.”

MJ would have turned 54 this year.

Michael Jackson was a musical legend, and his legacy is still celebrated today by fans around the world. Now, acclaimed director Spike Lee is taking on the ambitious task of creating a documentary about the King of Pop’s life and career. It promises to be an insightful look into Michael Jackson’s remarkable life, as well as serve as an homage to one of pop music’s greatest icons.

The upcoming document will explore all aspects of Michael Jackson’s life from his early childhood in Gary, Indiana through to his rise to global superstardom with hits like “Billie Jean” and “Thriller.” The film will also delve into the personal struggles that he faced over the years, such as accusations of child molestation and other controversies that were part of his later years. Through interviews with family members, close friends and associates, this documentary hopes to present a more complete picture of who Michael Jackson was behind-the-scenes.

Spike Lee has already established himself as one of Hollywood’s most talented directors, having won numerous awards for films such as Do The Right Thing and BlacKkKlansman. His involvement in this project offers hope that it could become one of the definitive works on Michael Jackson’s incredible journey – both musically and personally. Fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting its release!

In addition to these accounts, there will be archival footage from some of Jackson’s most famous performances throughout his career. These clips combined with the testimony from those closest to him promises for a comprehensive look at one of pop culture’s most influential figures.

Lee aims to create a cinematic experience that honors not only the artist but also all of the people he touched in his short life – from family members to fans around globe still mourning his death nearly 10 years later. With this ambitious undertaking, it looks like viewers are sure receive an emotionally charged journey through Michael Jackson’s extraordinary career and remarkable impact on music history.
