Resurfacing on social media and providing Barbz with a countdown to two new singles, “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz,” Nicki Minaj gave fans a little taste of one of the highly-anticipated singles (“Barbie Tingz”) yesterday before swiftly removing the audio from the net.
“Barbie Tingz” joins the arcade game inspired Street Fighter single “Chun-Li,” which Nicki premiered during her morning sit down with interview Zane Lowe on Beats 1. The sit down has been dubbed “The Return of Nicki Minaj” by the femcee.
Over the 80’s inspired beat, Nicki addressed her social media hiatus and copycats. “Rap bitches tell they team make ’em like Barbie,” she raps. “Had to come off IG so they can’t stalk me / All they do is copy looks, steal music too / Want to see what bitches do when they lose the blueprint.”
“Chun-Li” was produced by J. Reid for Chevy Musik and “Barbie Tingz” was produced by Chevy Musik, with both songs co-produced by Minaj. Minaj is heard against everyone “painting me out to be the bad guy” and references negative press she’s received, as her enemies “get on their keyboards” making her out to be the bad guy.
The two tracks are set to make the tracklisting for her upcoming studio album.
During the interview, Nicki discussed a variety of topics including Meek Mill, Drake, Cardi B and Migo’s “Motorsport” controversy. She expressed feeling ambushed after receiving backlash for the chart-topping single.
“With Cardi B, she’s done exactly what she should have done. She’s just gone full steam ahead and congratulations to her. The only thing with Cardi that really really really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after ‘Motorsport’ came out. I remember when I first came in the game, if a female of that stature did a song with me, I would only be singing their praises and saying ‘thank you.'” The first interview she did after ‘Motorsport’ came out, it just really hurt me. She looked so aggravated and angry. The only thing she kept saying was, ‘Oh, I didn’t hear that verse, I didn’t hear that verse.’ She changed her verse.”
She further explained that she felt better after seeing a recent interview by Cardi where she “genuinely said something nice” about her.
Nicki also went onto say that Quavo didn’t back her up during that time. She said she sent him a text asking him to back her up due to people thinking she was lying about not being able to get in the studio to record the track with Cardi or the video due to conflicting schedules. Quavo’s response to her was, “I would go on Twitter and back you up if you were my girl lol.” Nicki said that hurt her.
During her social media hiatus, Nicki wanted to focus on recording her forthcoming album and wanted the work to be fun.
Just last month, fellow rapper Young Thug announced his appearance on the record during an Instagram Live session. The track is entitled “Anybody.”
