Erykah Badu, Bilal, and The Roots kicked off the first of many Prince tributes at the 2016 BET Awards tonight (June 26th).
Comedian Dave Chappelle introduced the performers; with The Roots as the musicians, Badu sang “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker” and Bilal sang “The Beautiful Ones,” channeling the late Purple one to a T. The Philly crooner sounded a lot like Prince in his signature falsetto, eventually rising to a passionate crescendo of emotions while wallowing on the floor and tearing his shirt (in true Prince fashion)! The crowd stood on their feet in response.
