After being featured in our “About Face” series, it was evident that Janelle Monae would partner with a brand to show off her beauty to the world. The “Tightrope” singer has partnered with beauty company COVERGIRL to become the next face of a brand all about “doing you”. Monae recently wrapped her first shoot for her new gig, which will appear in the September issue of Vogue Magazine.
“I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them,” said Monáe, who plans to encourage women to use all their artistic powers to play, change, and transform. “One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique. Becoming a COVERGIRL is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.”
CoverGirl also took to Twiiter to show their gratitude around their new client, writing “Welcome @JanelleMonae to the @COVERGIRL fam! Excited to go on this beauty journey with you!”
Monae joins a long list of current COVERGIRLS including P!nk, Sofia Vergara, Queen Latifah, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Taylor Swift and more.
In related news, the 26-year-old is currently working on her sophomore album, The Electric Lady, due out later this year. This set follows her much acclaimed debut The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III).
