In an unexpected shake up, John Legend has stepped in to become the fourth mentor on ABC’s new reality singing competition Duets.
Legend was announced as an addition Monday, filling in for previously announced mentor Lionel Richie.
According to reports, Richie has dropped out due to scheduling conflicts leaving Legend, Robin Thicke, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles to carry on with the series.
“I’m thrilled to be part of Duets and I’m looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there. This is going be a lot of fun,” Legend said in a statement.
Hosted by former Total Request Live (TRL) host Quddus, Duets will follow all four mentors as they travel throughout North America in search of talent. They will ultimately choose two singers to be their partners, dueting until a winner is crowned with a Hollywood Records contract.
Duets premieres May 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
