Dawn Richard is readying another treat before she unleashes her full length album. The Diddy-Dirty Money member is plotting the new EP ‘Armor On,’ which will be the prequel to her GoldenHeart trilogy, scheduled for March.
“Change” is the first track from the EP and it demonstrates the “militant” and “soulful” sound the R&B songstress is trying to capture.
“The sound is aggressive, militant, but soulful,” Dawn told Rap-Up.com. “I wanted to add a New Orleans base in times of the second line, in celebration of our culture. Druski, the key producer of the EP, married the influences to tell the story of GoldenHeart.”
As far as the direction of the song “Change,” she says it’s about love holding still, despite personal challenges.
“I used this metaphor to inspire the [Hearts] and tell them that we are imperfect but still worth loving,” she explains. “I didn’t want to do a corny idea of love. I wanted it to have a strength to it and not be cliché. I want to push the Hearts to hear R&B in a different way.” Album: Armor On
